Episode Two: Weighing In

The 20 Making the Band 4 finalists have been chosen by Diddy and are moving into their awesome NYC pad! As the guys open the door, they?re happy to find all the rooms decked out with the hottest decor. But the Diddylicious house is only the beginning of more great things to come. It's time for "magic man" Diddy to mold these men into a soulful group he calls his "masterpiece."

"Dream team" member Michael Bivins explains to the Making the Band fellas that the house should be drama-free. Although the guys are competing against one another, they are reminded that they are in this together. But the competition is tight, and only the strong will survive.

Time to weigh in! The men are off to meet with a physical fitness trainer in an effort to help them tone up, shed pounds and step their sexiness way up! Diddy wouldn?t have it any other way.

As the guys line up to be weighed in, a few of them are shocked by what the scale says. Southern boy Michael assumed he weighed a lot less than the scale actually reveals. But his embarrassment quickly turns to motivation and he is seemingly determined to shed the excess pounds.

After the weigh-ins, it?s time for the real workout to start. Some of these guys are working harder than they?ve ever worked before, and the grueling workout proves to be a little too much for some of them. In fact, Dyshon is rushed to the hospital, where he finds out his blood pressure is way too low and he's dehydrated. It requires a lot of hard work to make the band, and Dyshon knows that after coming this far he can't let a little dehydration stand in the way of his success. It's already apparent that this batch of Making the Band hopefuls are fighters.

Next, the fellas head off to the dance studio, where they find choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson in a slinky blue number, complete with hills and an attitude to match. With their mouths wide open, Laurie Ann cracks the whip and informs the men that it's time to bring their A-game or hit the streets!

Laurie Ann tells the Making the Banders that every great icon has a technique and routine. But before the routine can take effect, the technique has to be perfected. She gears the men up to do a little ballet -- not quite what they had in mind!

Although he feels he is a strong competitor, Dan wonders if he has to try harder than the other guys because he is white. But the guys let him know that if he has the skills, nobody will be able to defeat him. Laurie Ann provides Dan with harsh, yet constructive, criticism and it seems to get under his skin. But he presses forward, letting nothing stand in his way of making the band.

Diddy decides to pop in on the fellas, making a surprise visit to the loft. He wants to get to know them all a little better and have them each explain their reasons for being in his pad. As they go around the room, Diddy gets a better sense of the passion behind each of the Making the Band hopefuls.

Next, Diddy says it?s time to put the guys into five different groups. Now the fun really begins! After the groups have been picked, it?s time for the men to start thinking as a team, not individuals. With group names like Campus Block, Face, Legit, 37th Ave. and Switch, it's time to kick it into high gear!

It's obviously time for these 20 finalists to push themselves to the limit, but vocal coach Ankh Ra teaches them that physical endurance isn?t all that will keep them afloat in the competition. They must also sing as if their lives depended on it. The bar has been set, and reaching their maximum potential will be determined by their own commitment and dedication. The Making the Band boys are well on their way to success but it's just the beginning.

Episode One: Bring The Heat

Watch out, ladies! Diddy's looking to shake things up during season 4 of Making the Band by scouring the country in search of the best male performers. With the success of season 3's all female, platinum-selling group, Danity Kane, Diddy is optimistic that he can find the perfect boy band to follow in the footsteps of such legendary acts as The Temptations, Boyz II Men, New Edition, 112 and *NSync.

Diddy has a new "dream team" to help him sift through all the candidates and extract the fellas that are truly worthy of a spot in the band. The dream team is comprised of New Edition's Michael Bivins, Grammy-winning producer Bryan Cox, R&B singer Joe, A&R manager Slam and vocal coach Ankh Ra. But wait! The dream team truly wouldn't be complete without Laurie Ann Gibson, the play-no-games choreographer from past seasons, so Diddy is adding her to the mix, too! With the prospective goal in mind, the Making the Band judges set out to see who has what it takes to make the cut.

Thousands of candidates line each city in hopes of becoming finalists on Making the Band and getting a chance to meet Diddy in person. But the fellas have to truly bring their A-game if they want to impress the dream team. The season kicks off in Orlando, where the judges sit through chalkboard-grinding vocals and awkward dance moves. But they know that for every good singer they discover there are a dozen bad ones they have to sit through!

The Making the Band judges aren't very harsh but remind the guys that there's no patience for slackers and no time to waste. Soon, the guys begin to improve and become quite impressive. As the singing portion of the audition comes to a close, Laurie Ann Gibson gears up to teach the guys a few dance moves. Her routine proves to be a bit edgy and difficult for some, but with no room for failure the guys quickly shape up and give it all they've got.

The dream team selects their Orlando faves, and then it's off to the next six cities. In Atlanta; Los Angeles; Chicago; Charlotte; Washington, D.C.; and New York City, there seems to be an endless amount of talent. Guys from near and far showcase their singing and dancing skills and represent their city to the best -- and sometimes worst -- of their abilities. The field eventually narrows to 58 finalists, who are sent to meet Diddy in New York City!

Now it's time for the true test: The finalists must give it all they've got in front of the iconic Diddy. But first, Laurie Ann Gibson and Michael Bivins bring the guys outside for a few words of encouragement. Michael says the wintery weather should serve as a symbol to the finalists -- either they'll hear some blustery comments from Diddy and be sent back out into the cold or they'll bring the heat and score a spot in the Making the Band house. Now the guys are finally ready to meet Diddy and prove that hard work really does pay off. Time to get busy!

As the next round of the Making the Band audition begins, Diddy looks unhappy with many of the guys and isn't quite sure if his dream team has lived up to his expectations. But with some sound advice from Michael Bivins, Diddy only cuts a portion of the group, giving the others another shot at impressing him. While some step it up, others drop the ball and are sent packing. Out of the 58 finalists, 38 are cut and Diddy now has his Top 20. He tells the guys that he plans to put them through the ringer because, after all, only the best will do for Diddy!
